10 Best Haciendas for a Wedding in Mérida

By Published: April 16, 202610 min read

Why Mérida Is the Capital of Hacienda Weddings

Mérida concentrates the highest density of former henequen haciendas converted into wedding venues in all of Mexico. These are 19th-century properties built during the henequen boom—Yucatán's "green gold"—and they preserve an architecture found nowhere else: carved white stone, monumental arcades, central courtyards with tropical vegetation, private chapels with centuries of history, and that peninsular light that turns any photograph into something cinematic.

In the Bodas Boutique directory, we have 21 verified haciendas in the Mérida area. Of those, 15 hold signature status—the highest tier in our evaluation system. This guide selects the 10 we consider essential if you're looking for a hacienda for your wedding in Yucatán.

The 10 Best Haciendas for a Wedding in Mérida

1. Hacienda Chaká

The most photogenic. Hacienda Chaká combines impeccable restoration with mature tropical gardens that create distinct micro-environments within the same property. The white stone arches frame each space as if they were sets designed for photography. It has multiple areas for ceremony and catering, allowing you to configure the wedding in a flow without guests repeating the same setting.

Capacity: 150–250 guests. Tier: Signature. What sets it apart: versatility of spaces and mature vegetation that few haciendas can match.

2. Hacienda Sac Chich & Casa Sisal

The luxury benchmark. Hacienda Sac Chich is arguably the most internationally recognized hacienda for weddings in Yucatán, and for good reason. The property integrates Casa Sisal as a complement, offering boutique lodging for the couple and close companions. The gardens are expansive, the architecture is restored with editorial rigor, and the team has experience with destination weddings featuring international guests.

Capacity: 120–200 guests. Tier: Signature. What sets it apart: integrated lodging and a consolidated international reputation.

3. Quinta Montes Molina

The urban mansion. This is not a rural hacienda but a restored 1902 mansion in the heart of Mérida, with original European furniture, manicured gardens, and a location that simplifies all transportation logistics. Ideal for couples who want the historic character of a hacienda without the distance of rural properties. Guests can walk to their hotels in the center.

Capacity: 80–150 guests. Tier: Signature. What sets it apart: central location and Porfirian architecture with original period furnishings.

4. Hacienda Chichí Suárez

The hacienda for large events. Located on the outskirts of Mérida, Hacienda Chichí Suárez has a scale that makes it ideal for weddings with over 200 guests without sacrificing the intimacy of the space. The property preserves its henequen structure with spacious patios, long corridors, and green areas that naturally absorb large groups. Its proximity to the city (15 minutes) eases logistics.

Capacity: 200–350 guests. Tier: Signature. What sets it apart: large scale without losing character—ideal for weddings with an extended guest list.

5. Hacienda San Diego Cutz

The restored gem. Hacienda San Diego Cutz is one of the best-preserved henequen properties in the region, with architectural details that reflect a restoration done with respect for the original history. The gardens are mature, and the property has that feeling of being isolated from the world that couples seek for a destination wedding. The chapel is a focal point that elevates any religious ceremony.

Capacity: 120–250 guests. Tier: Signature. What sets it apart: quality of restoration and the chapel as the centerpiece of the experience.

6. Hacienda Santa Lucía Kantoyna

The most private. Santa Lucía Kantoyna offers a level of exclusivity and privacy that few haciendas can match. The property functions as a world apart, surrounded by vegetation that completely isolates it from the outside. It's the choice for couples who want their wedding to feel like an event at a private estate, not a commercial venue.

Capacity: 100–200 guests. Tier: Signature. What sets it apart: total privacy and the feel of an exclusive private estate.

7. Hacienda San Antonio Hool

The hacienda with history. San Antonio Hool preserves original elements from its henequen era that give it a character hard to replicate. The property has that patina of authenticity that only time provides—walls with real texture, not walls painted to look old. The spaces are generous, and the structure allows for sunset ceremonies with light filtering through the arches.

Capacity: 100–200 guests. Tier: Signature. What sets it apart: architectural authenticity without artificial interventions.

8. Hacienda Teya

The gastronomic experience. Hacienda Teya is known first as a high-level Yucatecan cuisine restaurant and second as a venue. That's an advantage: the menu is one of the best expressions of regional gastronomy you can offer your guests. The property is on the ground floor of an elegantly restored main house and has gardens that work well for outdoor ceremonies.

Capacity: 100–200 guests. Tier: Signature. What sets it apart: exceptional Yucatecan cuisine integrated into the wedding experience.

9. Hacienda San Diego Tixcacal

The reliable classic. Tixcacal is one of the haciendas that consistently appears in local wedding planner recommendations. It's not the flashiest or the largest, but it has a proportion of spaces that works particularly well for weddings of 100 to 180 guests: ceremony in the garden, cocktail in the corridor, catering in the main patio. Everything flows without needing to move within the property.

Capacity: 100–180 guests. Tier: Signature. What sets it apart: natural flow between spaces that simplifies event logistics.

10. Hacienda El Gran Chaparral

The large-format option. For weddings with 200+ guests where you need plenty of space, El Gran Chaparral has the scale. The property is one of the largest in the area, with areas that absorb large groups without the event feeling cramped. It's the alternative when the guest count rules out more intimate haciendas.

Capacity: 200–350 guests. Tier: Signature. What sets it apart: ample capacity for large weddings without compromising the hacienda setting.

How We Chose This List

The ranking reflects the Bodas Boutique evaluation system, which considers property quality, verified wedding experience, maintenance condition, service capacity, and feedback from couples and planners who have worked with each venue. It is not a paid ranking: no hacienda buys its position. All 10 haciendas on this list have signature tier, the highest level in our directory.

What to Keep in Mind When Choosing a Hacienda in Mérida

Season and climate. The Yucatán heat is real. From April to September, temperatures exceed 35°C and humidity is high. Outdoor weddings work best from October to March, when the climate drops to 25–30°C and rain is sporadic. If your wedding is in the hot season, confirm that the hacienda has covered areas with ventilation.

Distance from Mérida's center. Rural haciendas are between 20 and 45 minutes from the center. That means transportation logistics for guests, especially at the end of the night. Quinta Montes Molina is the exception, being right in the center.

Vendor exclusivity. Some haciendas work with exclusive catering and do not allow outside vendors. Others let you bring your own team with a facility usage fee. Ask before signing—this affects your total budget.

Lodging. If your guests are coming from out of town, check whether the hacienda has suites or if you need to coordinate nearby hotels. Mérida has excellent boutique options in the center that complement the hacienda experience well.

Beyond the List

The 21 haciendas we have in the Mérida directory cover everything from intimate weddings of 60 people to events of 350 guests. If none of these 10 fit what you're looking for, explore the full directory filtering by the Mérida area—there are premium options that could be exactly what you need at a different price point.
