Weddings in Oaxaca
Oaxaca is the destination for couples seeking a wedding with deep cultural identity. The 36 verified venues in the city and the Central Valleys include former mezcal haciendas, gardens with murals by local artisans, and industrial spaces converted into event venues. Oaxacan cuisine, with seven varieties of mole, tlayudas, chapulines, and artisanal mezcal, offers a wedding menu that cannot be replicated in any other destination. Oaxaca Airport (OAX) receives direct flights from CDMX (1h 10min) and Monterrey.
Oaxaca de Juarez is the capital of Mexico's most culturally and gastronomically diverse state. Declared a UNESCO World Heritage site along with Monte Alban, the city preserves colonial architecture of green quarry stone and Baroque churches from the 16th to 18th centuries. The artisanal tradition (black clay from San Bartolo Coyotepec, textiles from Teotitlan del Valle, alebrijes from San Martin Tilcajete) integrates naturally into wedding decor and favors. The artisanal mezcal scene, with over 200 registered brands in the state, adds a tasting and pairing element to the wedding weekend.

Permits and regulations
Civil weddings are processed at the Civil Registry of Oaxaca de Juárez. Churches in the Historic Center (Santo Domingo de Guzmán, La Soledad) require coordination with the Archdiocese of Antequera for religious ceremonies. Venues in the Central Valleys (on the road to Tlacolula or Zaachila) have few noise restrictions. In the Historic Center, the curfew depends on the zone and the venue.
Transportation
From OAX airport to downtown: 15 minutes, fixed-rate taxis ($200 MXN) or private transfer. Uber operates in Oaxaca but with less coverage than in CDMX. For venues outside the city (Central Valleys), organized vans ($2,500–$4,000 MXN per unit). ADO buses from CDMX: 6 hours, $600–$800 MXN.
Lodging for guests
Boutique hotels in the Historic Center from $2,000 MXN/night. Rental houses in the Jalatlaco neighborhood from $2,500 MXN/night for 4–6 people. Chain hotels on the outskirts from $1,500 MXN/night. Book early if the date coincides with Día de Muertos or Guelaguetza.
